moderating

I was made a moderator on another site. I was and am delighted with the trust and started checking every morning for posts. Two days ago I found a couple of awful posts and deleted them shaking my head at how sick people can be. Today I found a whole bunch more. Does anyone really want to look at teens going to the bathroom? At least that is what it said the posts were. Needless to say I didn't check on the validity of the topic name, just got rid of them. They wrote it in smutty terms too. I am amazed. Is there that stuff on all forums? Does some poor sole have to check this one too? Wow with that many forums it must be a job and a half. I am still glad I am a moderator but am going to be even more diligent since I know that there are a couple kids that frequent that other site. I think I'll check morning and night after this.

    Yuck. I belong to a few forums that are constantly getting spammed. Even though I really like one of the forums, I've pretty much stopped going because the spam was so bad. I know the mods do the best they can, along with installing anti-spam filters, but spam always finds a way.

    I had the misfortune to see on the site I was responsible for disturbing images that occasionally that have come back to haunt me. They were rare, thank goodness. I could go months and months without encountering them.

    Just reading your blog unfortunately brought some of them back to mind. But the thing that most bothers me was the post I found offering children for sale internationally. I believed it was true. It originated from another country, a country which rarely had legitimate posts in the forums, but almost always only various kinds of spam. That was years ago. I've never turned a spammer in to any law enforcement agency, but in hindsight, I wish I would have turned in that one to the FBI or something.

    What's going on? I couldn't get Saving Advice three times in a row in the last 15 minutes, only an undesireable each time.

    You would be amazed at the amount of it we get. It helps that we keep our site clean - if they have any hint that the spam will stay up more than a few minutes, they will come back everyday. One of the major downsides of the Internet and quite time consuming...
