Estimate

March 12th, 2007 at 10:26 pm

Well, went to the dentist today and found out just how much they want me to spend. He also found out just how much he can't talk me into spending. He even tried the old you want to save your teeth but you aren't willing to put th emoney in them. After I explained (pretty coolly ) that I am a SAHM because we believe it is important for our DS2 to have me home and ... He backed down very quickly. We are going to find out what they (ins) will pay for and go from there. I am shocked to find they pay a different percentage of different precedures. And more unhappy that I didn't find out what percentage they will pay for of the work I already had done. Of course I was in so much pain I probably would have agreed to go with it no matter the price.

Wow today was see your dentist day... I was reading your post and laughed when you said "He also found out just how much he can't talk me into spending" They really do want you to save that tooth at $800+ I paid $330 today and will pay another $330 next week plus I have another tooth that need a root canal. I will be definately be taking more care of my teeth. I found out as well that my insurance pays for certain things at a certain amount, this was just lovely

I have been putting a lot of money into my teeth. I don't have insurance, so I have been paying cash. But, I am half-way through my life (I hope I have 40 more years to go) and I feel that my teeth are an investment. I don't want to walk around with ugly teeth and pain from cavities. Just my opinion, but I can sympathize with how much it costs.

Most insurance plans pay different percentages for different procedures. Cleaning twice a year and x-rays once a year is usually 100%. Fillings and sealants tend to be 80% and major work like root canals and crowns are 50-60%.

It is the one part of medical where they seem willing to pay more for preventative care than for the results of not getting the preventative care.
