Schoolwork for 5

December 4th, 2008 at 05:08 pm

i have 3 extras today. A friend has to take her youngest for all kinds of tests today so dropped off her 5,8,& 9 year old here. We had school for 5. My 3 year old wanted to show off but settled down. My 5 year old buckled down after a couple minutes and worked really hard cause the other 5 yr old is his best friend and he wanted playtime as soon as possible. I was amazed at the small amount of work they did in a school day. Maybe it is because they came here but 4 division problems seems pretty low to me. Oh well guess I am a slave driver!!
My DS2 read to me last night and it was wonderful!! He did an awesome job. He is sounding out so much less than he was. I taught him to sound it out in his head and that goes so much faster for him. I am a very proud Mom!

Free Meal

June 25th, 2008 at 12:34 am

We went to Perkins tonight (kids eat free on Tuesday with Adult entree) As we were finishing up the waitress came over and said that our meal was paid for and we each got a piece of pie (adults). We must have looked totally confused cause she sent the waitress of our benefactor (who had left) over to explain. It seems that our little ones age 3 and 4 had so impressed the couple with their good behavior that they paid for our meal!!! We were soooooooooo proud of them!

Test and bragging.

I tried to put a picture on my blog but it isn't working. Or at least it didn't work on th eold entries. This is a trial entry to see if it works on future ones. My picture is of me with my oldest who is in Iraq. As I type my youngest son is also typing. Here is his work, letter for letter.
yanai and honey both kissed me at the same time.
and they noced me down.
and the cat is tacen uwae until we get bac.
Translation is Yanai and Honey (our big dogs) both kissed me at the same time. and they knocked me down. and the cat is taken away until we get back. Not bad for a 4 year old. I helped with the ow in down and encouraged the use of the space bar. The cat went to a friend for the duration of the trip.

Math U See

February 15th, 2008 at 09:00 pm

I just bought the math program I am going to go with for the next year or so. i will have two 4s (turn to 5s in late summer) and i think it will be a good program to make concepts memorable. I also like that the songs come in two versions, Bible based and kids songs. I am sometime challenged to use the Bible in Math (you can count only so many arks) and am delighted that they did it this way. The 2 and 3 yr old will learn the songs and be further ahead too. This system goes into Algebra, geometry and precalc. They also have a stewardship program that i think is really important. Hopefully it will be a good system for us.
