Decluttering

October 4th, 2010 at 09:21 pm

I have been thinking of the idea of spending 30 minutes a day decluttering and 30 minutes a day cleaning a room. i tend to pick big projects rather than little bites then rest on my laurels for way too long. Maybe this would work better.
I have also been thinking of remodeling the bathroom downstairs on my own. Not sure I am up to it but you never know. Certainly can't afford to hire someone to do it!

I'm considering redoing our main bath myself. It is so small, it just seems stupid to pay someone to tile the floor. We have a free tool library, so I could get the tools for a week at a time for free, so I may give it a try. My only other upgrade is replacing the mirror with a medicine cabinet, and I'm pretty sure we can handle that!

If you tend to get overwhelmed decluttering, I would commit to only 10 minutes at first. If you are still movtivated when the time is up...keep going! Little amounts do add up.

That's a great idea. I'm thinking I need some set goals to motivate myself, too. I might steal this one. Smile

The forum topic: "What did you declutter today?" has been a great motivational tool for me. My surplus seems never-ending, but scrolling back through my posts reminds me I need to keep at it and I have accomplished a lot.

It is not hard to take on a small amount of time, and it leads to progress, which is what matters. Taking on the entire process all at once offers no insurance that you will ever finish the job because it feels too overwhelming! Incidentally, this doesn't apply only to tidying up, but also to working out, to studying, to ANYTHING! =) Good luck...
