Weight loss

June 28th, 2006 at 01:41 pm

My DH has had it!!! He is determined to lose weight. At work they presented everyone with a challenge. The person who loses the most weight in the next 6 months gets 200.00 as does the one who loses the greatest percentage of weight. The others are in a drawing for different prizes. Everyone gives 10.00 to enter the challenges and weighs in with the nurse. I decided to join him and we are putting a bit of money away every payday to see which of us loses the most as well. I want to lose 42 pounds in the next six months. Thats only 7 pounds a month or two a week. I should be able to do that pretty easily. If my DH can do at least that (he wants ot lose more like about 80 or 90) we will be in great shape next winter. My worst tiem of day is naptime so I may start blogging then to keep me from eating.

My husband went on a diet last year. He cut all sugar from his diet, including the coke he used in mixed drinks at night. He switched to sugar free sprite. He ate no more chips, instead he has peanuts and pretzels. He has lost 40 pounds and only weights 152 now. He really watches it. Good luck to the two of you!

What a great idea for his company! I'm going to suggest that to my HR department. And good for your DH for trying to lose weight, it's amazing what even just losing 10 pounds can do. I found that writing down everything you eat (kind of like writing down everything you spend, dieting and budgeting are very simular in some aspects!) really helps. Plus, moving around more. I don't just mean exercise, but doing things like taking the stairs, parking further away from the entrance in parking lots, walking to the corner store when you only need one or two things, stuff like that really can make a differance without too much effort.

I'd like to suggest a great FREE website that could be helpful on you and your husbands weight loss journey -- sparkpeople.com . Another good one (but not as complete as Spark) is fitday.com which is also FREE. Smile

Good luck! My husband did the Atkins diet! Boy did he lose weight! Of course he also had a heart attack afterwards...... Sensible eating and exercise and let yourself have a mini Snickers from time to time!! Thats the key!

Good luck! Is it just straight pounds, or can you lose inches and drop your body fat percentage too?

Life changes, make changes that will lat a lifetime and you can lose it and keep it off (more water, more veggies, more fruit, more moving)

Let us know how it goes.
